Industry Associations in Massachusetts
Trade groups are a great way to network, post opportunities, meet candidates, etc. State associations are even better, because you know all the people you find there will be locals! If you are a dues-paying member, you can often post jobs, a company profile, etc., free to their web sites.- Associated Industries of Massachusetts - serves the business owners' goals primarily (which makes it an interesting target for recruiting firms).
- Association of Internet Professionals (AIP) - Click on the links for the Massachusetts chapters. There's one in Boston which got bigger when the Boston area Webmasters Guild merged with them in the late '90s, and then a Interstate 495 chapter emerged.
- Boston Notes Users Group - Lotus Notes techies.
- Boston Web Women - Emerged in reaction to the direction that Boston Webgrrls was headed.
- Cyber District Association - geographic and industry focus.
- Cape Cod Technology Council - Over 100 high-tech firms on the Cape are members.
- Environmental Business Council - New England - Focus on environmental technology.
- Greater Boston Network Users Group (BNUG) - You'll find your techies here.
- Massachusetts Association of Personnel Services (MAPS): Permanent placement (and some temp) firms.
- Massachusetts Association of Staffing Services (MASS): State association of temporary staffing firms. This is a searchable directory of their members.
- Massachusetts Bar Association - for lawyers and law firms.
- Massachusetts Biotechnology Council - For the biotech industry.
- Massachusetts Electronic Commerce Association (a/k/a Mass eComm) - Pays its bills by charging companies for corporate membership, rather than depending on individuals' dues.
- Massachusetts High Technology Council - Yes, there's overlap between state associations.
- Massachusetts Interactive Media Council - Internet focus.
- Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMedic) - "Working to make Massachusetts the medical device capital of the world." Company membership base.
- Massachusetts Software & Internet Council - Among other services, their Fellowship program places professionals in low-tech firms seeking to transition into a high-tech company. For $2,000/month, you get a dedicated worker for 32 hours/week on site for five months.
- Massachusetts Telecommunications Council - For the telecom industry; one of the first state associations with a career-focused component to their Web site.
- MIT Enterprise Forum - Attracting both aspiring entrepreneurs and the entities that fund them.
- NEHRA - the Northeast Human Resource Association is New England's largest regional chapter within SHRM.
- Western Massachusetts Software Association - Just in case you thought high-tech stopped as you got west of Interstate 495.
