April 2000 Recruiting-Online Newsletter

If you liked the newsletter below, then you should definitely click here to subscribe FREE.

Greetings from your Internet Recruiting guru c/o the New England-
focused recruitment Web site, CommunityClassifieds.com/Employment

This free email Newsletter is sent once per month to keep you updated
about recruiting tips and tools available online and elsewhere. If
you no longer wish to receive this information, visit
http://www.egroups.com/group/recruiting-online. We changed our
newsletter management software to eGroups, which gives you more
flexibility than before.

* FREE JOB POSTING SITE OF THE MONTH

Now the major search engines are getting into the jobs game.
Altavista has partnered with many major career sites, and offers
free job posting directly. Expect huge traffic as this site gets
better known:
http://careers.altavista.com/

* FREE RESUME SOURCES OF THE MONTH

College News Online has tens of thousands of resumes of students.
While there are ways to search particular schools' resumes, having
this many in one place for free is pretty good, though it skews to
the upper Midwest.
http://www.collegenews.com/jobs.htm

The Software Contractor's Guild, a New Hampshire-based site, stores
resumes of their 2,000-plus members (the Guild has chapters in other
countries):
http://www.scguild.com

* FREE RECRUITING SERVICE OF THE MONTH

RecruitUSA has partnered with Recruiter's Network to offer a free
evaluation of your company's current Internet recruiting strategy,
including recommendations and suggestions to improve recruiting
efficiency and effectiveness. (RecruitUSA has a fee-based service
that posts your openings to over 100 high-traffic Internet job
sites all from one form, but there is no obligation tied to the
free evaluation.)

* RECRUITING SOFTWARE TOOL OF THE MONTH

Ijob.com has been given some extra juice following its 1999
acquisition by Lawson Software. Their web-enabled solution lets
you manage much of the recruiting process from your normal web
browser. It's not free, but most in this class are not:

* GENERAL RECRUITING TIP OF THE MONTH

Bill Radin, a veteran teacher of recruiting methods, has a list
of free tips (not necessarily Internet-related) for executive
recruiters at:
http://www.recruitertools.com/recruiter-training-tips.htm

* INTERNET RECRUITING NICHE OF THE MONTH

IT is always in demand: yes, Information Technology. We mention
our own favorite niche sites for IT candidate sourcing in our
online recruiting seminars, but PCWeek magazine used a nice mix
of criteria to devise its own top 10 recently at:
http://www.zdnet.com/pcweek/stories/jumps/0,4270,2421449,00.html

* RECRUITING EVENT OF THE MONTH

Kennedy Information, publishers of various comprehensive
recruiting industry directories and newsletters, has lined up
star-studded talent their e-Recruiting & Staffing Conference on
May 18-19 in Las Vegas (I list these a month ahead for travel
booking purposes). The heads of HotJobs, Monster, LeadersOnline,
Futurestep, JobTrak, Powerhiring and many others will participate.
Details at:
http://www.kennedyinfo.com/e-recruiting

http://www.egroups.com/calendar/recruiting-online?s=2

* RECRUITING STATISTIC OF THE MONTH

The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics predicts the following
occupations will see the greatest growth from 1998-2008:
Computer engineers (up 108%), Computer support specialists (102%),
System analysts (94%), Personal care/home health aides (58%),
teacher assistants (31%), nursing aides and receptionists (both
24%), secondary school teachers (23%), registered nurses (22%),
office/admin support supervisors (19%). The recruiters who build
their databases starting now with these candidates will be best
positioned when the economy's eventual slide reduces employer
demand for other occupations!

* HOW DO I LEARN MORE?

For those who have attended my seminar this year, you have access to
the above data and more by logging in at http://www.recruiting-
online.com. If you have never attended, forgot your password, or you
