Greetings from your Internet Recruiting guru c/o the New England-
focused recruitment Web site, CommunityClassifieds.com/Employment
This free email Newsletter is sent once per month to keep you updated
about recruiting tips and tools available online and elsewhere. If
you no longer wish to receive this information, visit
http://www.egroups.com/group/recruiting-online. We changed our
newsletter management software to eGroups, which gives you more
flexibility than before.
* FREE JOB POSTING SITE OF THE MONTH
Post your jobs to students at over 100 universities. This system
protects student confidentiality, which adds credibility:
http://www.careerconnections-res.com
* FREE RESUME SOURCE OF THE MONTH
America Online is the biggest online community, but you don't have to
be an AOL member to access their members' resumes. Here are two
pools to tap. The miscellaneous bunch (searchable by keywords) is at:
http://hometown.aol.com/cat.adp?cid=19155&l=english
and information technology resumes are at:
http://search.aol.com/cat.adp?id=185646
* INTERNET RECRUITING TOOL OF THE MONTH
One of the new products introduced at the e-Cruiting and Staffing
Conference last month was EmployMAX's JobFlash(TM), a multi-media job
description and company profile capable of performing in low
bandwidth environments and deliverable by e-mail. For employers who
want to present themselves impactfully via sight, sound and motion,
this may be interesting.

* GENERAL RECRUITING TIP OF THE MONTH
The hot trend now is referrals: You get (or should) many of your
best employees from referrals by current ones. Taking the referral
network wider, several sites have launched to facilitate the employee
referral process, with the referring person and the site each
financially incented: Refer.com (launched by Webhire and Idealab!),
CareerRewards.com (over $3 million in VC), and Referrals.com (funded
in part by Hearst Interactive Media, the magazine group publisher).
Incent your own staff, or you'll be paying for referrals from these
sites someday!
* INTERNET RECRUITING NICHE OF THE MONTH
Senior management candidates: Traditionally the domain of executive
recruiting agencies, these firms typically demand 25% of first-year
salary as their placement fee. That spurred the creation of career
sites like Exec-U-Net and 6FigureJobs. Now another site geared to
the $100K-plus salary candidate has entered the fray:
http://www.bigwigs.net
* RECRUITING EVENT OF THE MONTH
Some of the big-name speakers at SHRM and IHRIM last month will share
their knowledge at Xtreme Recruiting: Human Capital Management in the
New Millennium, a FREE all-day event on Wed. July 12 in Silicon
Valley. The sessions sound informative, and is a great way for the
host, Intralect, to attract HR/recruiting decision-makers to see its
enhanced JobPlanet product. For details, monica@i... or

* ADVANCED SEARCH STRING OF THE MONTH
If you read my article in the Recruitment special section of the June
12, 2000 issue of Mass High Tech (archived online at
masshightech.com), their editors inadvertently inserted some typos on
my search strings to target specific kinds of high-tech resumes,
which prevent them from working as published. For the correct
version, go to my site:
http://www.recruiting-online.com/mhtarticle.html
To learn how to adapt those search strings to other desired candidate
skilltypes or other geographic areas, if you have attended one of our
seminars, go to:
http://recruiting-online.com/course1/course15a.html
* RECRUITING NEWS OF THE MONTH
Korn/Ferry, the big executive recruiting firm, is going on a buying
career site spree: They're buying the college job site JobDirect.com
in a $30 million cash-stock deal in order to penetrate the
student/entry-level job seeker space, and invested half of the latest
$16 million round supporting recruiting software vendor WebHire.com.
* RECRUITING STATISTIC OF THE MONTH
Having trouble convincing your bosses that online recruiting is
worthwhile? The average cost per hire that way is $152, versus
$1,383 using traditional methods. And it's not just techies you'll
find: 62% of aspiring senior managers say they'll use the Internet
to search for their next job. The sources for these stats, and
several others, come from an article by the editor of Recruiting
Trends at:
http://www.thestandard.com/article/display/0,1151,15665,00.html
* HOW DO I LEARN MORE?
For those who have attended my seminar this year, you have access to
the above data and more by logging in at http://www.recruiting-
online.com. If you have never attended, forgot your password, or you
attended my seminar previous to 2000, feel free to contact me for
information about online access or a live seminar on-site at your
company at:
glenn@recruiting-online.com (email) or visit
