Greetings from your Internet Recruiting guru c/o the New England-
focused recruitment Web site, CommunityClassifieds.com/Employment
This free email Newsletter is sent once per month to keep you updated
about recruiting tips and tools available online and elsewhere. If
you no longer wish to receive this information, visit
http://www.egroups.com/group/recruiting-online. We changed our
newsletter management software to eGroups, which gives you more
flexibility than before.
* FREE JOB POSTING SITE OF THE MONTH
WorkSeek.com, which includes the network of sites GeekSeek.com,
SalesSeek.com, RetailSeek.com, GradSeek.com and FinanceSeek.com,
puts a new spin on job-posting. It is free to post any or all
your jobs, search their candidate profile database, etc...you
ONLY pay (flat fee of about 3 percent of the annual salary) if
and when you hire a candidate found through it. To incent
candidates to use the site, WorkSeek offers a signing bonus pool
of almost $10 million (and growing, thanks to employers who
optionally can contribute extra bonus money) which is shared by
job-seekers who find positions through WorkSeek.

* FREE RESUME SOURCE OF THE MONTH
Recruiters always complain how difficult it is to find biomedical
candidates. Now there is BioMedNet, focusing on biology, microbiology,
immunology, cell biology, etc. Visitors are asked to register, but it
is free. Employers can post jobs for free and also see profiles of
people looking for jobs. Visit
http://www.biomednet.com
* GENERAL RECRUITING TIP OF THE MONTH
Tough finding enough full-timers or your headcount will not allow them?
Then the way to get projects done is with contractors. The freelance
market is exploding, especially with a whole crop of career sites
emerging to help freelance talent find gigs. Two of the early leaders
are talentmarket.monster.com and workexchange.com, but they are not the
only ones. See the growing list at:
http://recruiting-online.com/course59.html
* INTERNET RECRUITING NICHE OF THE MONTH
College: Though near the end of the school year, it is not too late
to secure entry-level staff or summer interns (paid or course credit)
as many qualified students just do not get around to focusing on work
until after classes end and family/friends start asking what they are
doing. See the updated comprehensive list of college portals and
entry-level job sites at:
http://recruiting-online.com/course58.html
* RECRUITING EVENT OF THE MONTH
The 52nd Annual SHRM Conference and Exposition, run by the largest HR
association, is June 25-28 in Las Vegas, NV. There is simply no other
place to meet more of your HR/recruiting peers, vendors, etc., at one
time -- and a keynote by Jay Leno to boot. Details at:
http://www.shrm.org/conferences/annual/

* ADVANCED SEARCH STRING OF THE MONTH
A frequent lament in my Internet recruiting seminars is: I need system
administrators based nearby, but I do not want to use commercial career
site resume databases because I end up being the 50th recruiter to contact
a candidate found there. In many cases, that is true, so why not do an
advanced search for resumes on personal homepages instead? Go to
Altavista.com, click on Advanced Search, and paste the following in the
Boolean Query search box exactly as below:
(url:resume or resume or title:resume or title:bio) and ("systems
administrator" or "system administrator") and (781 or 978 or 508
or 617) and not (EOE OR "career advancement" OR "employment
opportunity" OR "human resources" OR HR OR preferred)
The above is geared to finding Eastern Massachusetts system administrators.
To learn how to adapt those search strings to other desired candidate
skilltypes or other geographic areas, if you have attended one of our
seminars, go to:

* RECRUITING NEWS OF THE MONTH
Big mergers in April: Headhunter.net and CareerMosaic.com merge to solidify
their position as the #2 job/resume site after Monster.com, partly in
response to recent Monster-AOL strategic partnership. Another general
job/resume hub, Hotjobs.com, which also makes Softshoe recruiting software,
announced its merger last month with Resumix, a provider of client-server
and Web-based recruiting software. Our take: consolidation is good because
it helps draw a greater critical mass of job-seekers, and even better when
the acquisition allows a job site to seamlessly integrate higher-level
resume management functionality.
* RECRUITING STATISTIC OF THE MONTH
FlipDog.com has confirmed what Bay State employers already suspected:
Massachusetts has the greatest excess of unfilled jobs. Combining their
job listings datamined off of employers own Web sites and US Government
data, FlipDog determined that Massachusetts has 7.44 job opportunities
per 1,000 laborers. California is a distant second at 5.74 jobs per
1,000. For details on all 50 states and other related reports, visit:
http://www.flipdog.com/corp/jobsindex.html
* HOW DO I LEARN MORE?
For those who have attended my seminar this year, you have access to
the above data and more by logging in at http://www.recruiting-
