* FREE JOB POSTING SITES OF THE MONTH
FinCareer is for positions in global finance.
http://www.fincareer.com
JobGorilla skews to high-tech positions and has a national scope.
Everything on this site is free to employers.
http://www.jobgorilla.com
* FREE RESUME SOURCES OF THE MONTH
ITI e-Business Professionals: You need a password, but it's free.
ITI is an IT training institute, accepting those who already have a
Bachelor's degree or higher to take additional e-business
coursework. Many students are hired before they graduate! Post a
job free, then search for resumes that match. ITI schools are in
Portland (Ore.), Seattle and Denver, plus various locations in
Canada, so expect that's where candidates are from.
http://eprofessionals.iti.com
CF Advisor (i.e., Cold Fusion) allows for free job posting and resume
searching. Only a few hundred in the database so far, but good
developers on Allaire's platform don't grow on trees!

* INTERNET RECRUITING TOOL OF THE MONTH
ProFusion is the free Web-enabled equivalent of Intelliseek's
BullsEye software, letting you search for resumes, news stories
(e.g., about yourself, competitors or companies downsizing/layoffs),
etc. Check out the MyProFusion and MyProFilter tool links near the
lower right of the page, too. The best part is they store your
queries and results and/or email you new matches as often as daily.
Remember to select "Boolean" in the "Search Type" menu and precede
terms you want with a plus sign, and a minus sign preceding terms you
want to eliminate. (See ADVANCED SEARCH STRING section below if you
need help creating Boolean queries.)

* GENERAL RECRUITING TIP OF THE MONTH
Did you know that some outplacement firms allow you to search their
candidate databases online? And some, like DrakeBeamMorin, even let
you post job openings free. For details and to set up a free
account, visit:
http://www.dbm.com/hiring/access.html
* INTERNET RECRUITING NICHE OF THE MONTH
HR professionals: If you're recruiting for HR generalists, benefits
or compensation specialists, etc., you have many places to choose
from! Relatively few of the niche job sites are free, but here are
two that even let you get resumes free (though neither is high
volume): IFEBP and WorldatWork (formerly the ACA), located
respectively at:
http://www.ifebp.org/resumes
http://www.worldatwork.org/Content/Joblinks/joblinks-want-frame.html
For many more such sources, login to our course (see "HOW DO I LEARN
MORE?" below if you lack access) and go to:

* RECRUITING EVENT OF THE MONTH
Hunt-Scanlon, a leading marketing intelligence firm for executive
recruiters, will hold "Achieving Human Capital Advantage," a two-day
symposium on how to secure top talent in today's competitive labor
market, on Feb. 7-8, 2001 in New York City. Scheduled to appear are

* ADVANCED SEARCH STRING OF THE MONTH
You want experienced (i.e., not still in college) Java developers in,
say, Connecticut, but searching for "Java developers" doesn't yield
enough resumes? That's partly because such folks may call
themselves "engineers" or do "Java programming" or "architecture."
So go to Altavista.com, click on Advanced Search and:
1) put in the "Boolean Query" box:
java and (engineer* or develop* or program* or architect*) and (CT
near (203 or 475 or 860 or 959)) and not (url:.edu or submit or reply
or job* or HR or eoe or "human resources")
2) put in the "Sort by" box:
resume url:resume title:resume
Then click "Search." To learn why this works, how to adapt Boolean
search strings to other desired candidate skilltypes or other
geographic areas, login to our course (see "HOW DO I LEARN MORE?"
below if you lack access) and go to:
http://recruiting-online.com/course1/course15a.html
* INNOVATIVE RECRUITING SITE OF THE MONTH
We have to hand it to both DotCom.Failures and FuckedCompany (excuse
our French, but that is really the latter site's name). These sites
were launched in part to poke fun at the dot-com craze and feed on
rumors about high-tech companies in trouble. However, they are great
free sources for recruiters looking to find laid-off staff (or likely
to be) before it's too late. Visit, respectively:
http://www.dotcomfailures.com
http://www.fuckedcompany.com
For more resources to find companies where people are on the way out,
login to our course (see "HOW DO I LEARN MORE?" below if you lack
access) and go to:
http://www.recruiting-online.com/course1/course48b.html
* RECRUITING NEWS OF THE MONTH
Is the new trend Recruiting Radio? I've discovered two weekly radio
shows devoted to recruiting, using industry experts as guests to
answer job-hunters' questions live. These follow in the footsteps of
pioneer The Job Show, which was on Boston radio and then TV before
folding for financing reasons. Tell us if you know of other such
programs! Check out:

or http://www.itrecruitermag.com/RadioShow/
or http://www.pctalent.com/geeks/
* RECRUITING STATISTIC OF THE MONTH
How easy do you make it for visitors to your company web site to see
your jobs? According to a recent report by RecruitSoft/iLogos, Inc.,
73 percent of the Fortune 500 have their corporate homepage one click
from their Careers section, but only 9 percent enable Careers section
visitors to email job descriptions to a friend. This feature taps
into a site visitor's referral network and effectively provides
prescreened applicants at no sourcing cost. For more from this
report, visit:
http://www.recruitsoft.com/iLogosBestPractices
And for more ways to make your web site more effective as a
recruiting tool, login to our course (see "HOW DO I LEARN MORE?"
below if you lack access) and go to:
http://recruiting-online.com/course1/course28.html
* HOW DO I LEARN MORE?
If you attended one of our live seminars or purchased online-only
access recently, you have access to all of the above and more by
logging in at http://www.recruiting-online.com If not, and you can't
come to a seminar, take the course at your own pace online for only
$100/person! We also present the full-day seminar on-site at your
company for just $175/person, customized for your firm. For details
