* FREE JOB POSTING SITE OF THE MONTH
Vault.com: This career 'watercooler' site has become a top job-seeker
destination with its active bulletin boards, yet its job postings are
free. There is a fee if you want to cross-post to 50 other or so
sites they have affiliated with.
http://www.vault.com
* FREE RESUME SOURCE OF THE MONTH
I discovered this at the NEHRA.com Convention in Providence, RI a few
days ago (more from this event in my next newsletter): Major
outplacement firm Lee Hecht Harrison has put over 15,000 of the laid-
off employees of their client companies in a searchable database.
You don't have to be a LHH client to use it. Full contact
information with each resume. Just fill out a short form to get an
access password.

* INTERNET RECRUITING TOOL OF THE MONTH
Treeba.com recently introduced their TreebaHire product which does
virtual candidate screening and interviewing. Candidates go through
a series of dynamic questions which automatically compares them to
others applying for the same job. The highest rankers are then
invited to a virtual video interview, which requires nothing more
than a computer equipped with a digital camera.

* GENERAL RECRUITING TIP OF THE MONTH
Lou Adler, founder of PowerHiring, shares some common-sense, top-
level thinking for using the Internet in your recruiting strategy in
a column for career portal Headhunter.net's recruiting e-newsletter,
Hireadigm:
http://www.headhunter.net/JobPoster/Hireadigm/Inside0300.htm
* INTERNET RECRUITING NICHE OF THE MONTH
Minority candidates: Many recruiters stereotype diversity career
sites, thinking they're only good to help comply with EEO rules and
to find less-educated, lower-wage workers. Not so! Many of these
sites focus on such desirable categories as engineers (e.g., check
out the National Society of Hispanic Engineers' job site at
http://www.diversilink.com). If you subscribe to our course, see
many more such niche sites (recently expanded) at:

* RECRUITING EVENT OF THE MONTH
Kennedy Information's e-Recruiting & Staffing Expo 2000 will take
place Nov. 16-17 at the Jacob Javits Center in New York City. This
one's shaping up to be pretty good, between the conference sessions
and the opportunity to see so many Internet recruiting solution
vendors in one place. Details at:

* ADVANCED SEARCH STRING OF THE MONTH
In our live and online seminars, I emphasize virtual communities as a
way to reach passive job seekers. If you pick the right ones, you
can use full Boolean syntax in your search strings. For example, try
pasting this in the search field on Angelfire.com to find Java
programmers in Eastern Massachusetts:
resume AND java and (develop* or program* or engineer* or architect)
AND (MA NEAR (781 or 508 or 617 or 978))
To understand why this works so well and to learn how to adapt this
to other desired candidate skilltypes or other geographic areas, if
you have attended one of our seminars or subscribed to online-only
access, go to:

* INNOVATIVE RECRUITING SITE OF THE MONTH
What does it take to motivate desirable passive job seekers to
interview, let alone take an offer? Imaxo.com thinks paying cash
will do it. Their new business model empowers candidates by allowing
them to set their "Interview Price" -- the amount they believe is
fair compensation for the time and effort it takes to meet with
prospective employers. Employers browse resumes, and decide whether
or not they are willing to pay the amount indicated by a candidate
for an interview.

* RECRUITING NEWS OF THE MONTH
On Oct. 23, the HR-XML consortium, a diverse group of companies
establishing standards for data exchange in the human resources
field, approved the Staffing Exchange Protocol (SEP) for
standardizing job postings on the Internet. The new XML-based
standard provides a common method for posting employment
opportunities to web-based recruiting sites and the return of resumes
matching those positions. HR-XML SEP makes it possible for employers
to submit job requisitions to publishers without the need for
customized interfaces. Resumes conforming to HR-XML SEP are
retrieved, searched and evaluated more easily. Job seekers access a
targeted range of positions with better-defined requirements.
Companies not part of the consortium are invited to use the new
standard and help it evolve.

* RECRUITING PARTNERSHIP OF THE MONTH
National residential broadband provider Telocity will offer a free
month of high-speed Internet access with no obligation to any of the
six million users of Headhunter.net, the career portal which recently
acquired rival CareerMosaic.com. Those who wish to continue with
Telocity pay $49.95/month. Now maybe some of those passive job-
seekers who typically search for jobs on the sly using their faster
Internet access at work will do it from home instead!

* RECRUITING STATISTIC OF THE MONTH
About 70 percent of the U.S. workforce now has access to the Web at
work, up from 63% in 1999, reports high-tech research firm, Cahners
In-Stat Group. By 2004, that should rise to nearly 85%. Large
employers have the highest Internet penetration. Among small
businesses (5-99 full-time employees), it's over 80%. SOHO businesses
(fewer than 5 FTEs) have been slower to adopt Internet technology,
with a penetration rate under 75%. More details:

all of the above and more by logging in at http://www.recruiting-
