* FREE JOB POSTING SITE OF THE MONTH
Craigslist, the non-profit job postings site that's one of the
biggest in the San Francisco area, has just launched lists in eight
new cities: Boston, Chicago; LA; NYC; Portland, OR; Seattle, San
Diego and Washington, DC. While the sites "get going," employers can
post jobs for free.

* FREE RESUME SOURCE OF THE MONTH

market on campuses. If you want more interns or graduating college
students as employees, they're offering a 30 day free trial,
including unlimited access to thousands of undergraduates and
graduate candidates of all types - passive, active, and future job

services (also included during your free trial) include job and
internship postings on their site, expertise from our University
Relations staff, assessment to analyze your company's successes and
determine new methods to explore to enhance your internal recruiting
efforts.

* INTERNET RECRUITING TOOL OF THE MONTH
Multi-database resume search tools are proliferating. The best ones
are those that allow use of the full range of Boolean search
operators (and, or, not, near, *, etc.). While I've been a fan of
Resume infoFinder Gold from Infogist.com and BullsEye Pro 2.5 from
Intelliseek.com for a while, However, fellow Internet recruiting guru
Bret Hollander of www.NetRecruiting.net is a big fan of the products
from StaffBots. Their ResumeMole is not great, but I've been testing
ResumeSeeker, and it's worthwhile. Get 14-day free trial access at:

* INNOVATIVE RECRUITING SITE OF THE MONTH
Jobfly.com spiders 20 other career portals (Monster, Headhunter,
etc., plus some niche ones) so you can use one search form to comb
through the 1 million-plus jobs posted on all those sites. Like its
primary competitor, CareerBuilder, it automatically removes duplicate
jobs. Like its other rival CareerShop, Jobfly pushes the TV angle:
you can see featured employer profiles in audio and video. Jobfly's
other unique twist is an optional small window that displays a
streaming list of the five most recent jobs posted that match your
search criteria. It's a convenient way to monitor jobs while doing
other things at your computer, says Jobfly CTO Howard Lee.
Unfortunately, very few of the jobs Jobfly spiders can be inserted
into the streaming applet, so it resulted in displaying one job at
most when I ran it. Mr. Lee assured me they will fix this, so keep
an eye on this site.

* INTERNET RECRUITING NICHE OF THE MONTH
Healthcare: First off, are you aware there are associations of
recruiters just for this industry? Pick the brains of your peers for
recruiting tips in this niche: Association of Staff Physician
Recruiters (www.aspr.org), Medical Group Management Association
(www.mgma.com), and American Society for Healthcare Human Resources
Administrators (www.ashhra.org). The biggest healthcare niche job
site is MiracleWorkers.com, which just got bought by the overall #2
career site Headhunter/CareerMosaic!

* RECRUITING EVENT OF THE MONTH
Fast Company magazine has engaged the high-tech world with its unique
take on the industry. Now they're getting into the job fair business
with Fast Company TalentLab. But the agenda is loaded with top-
drawer speakers covering HR/recruiting topics, rather than just the
cattle call of exhibitor booths staffed by recruiters. The Boston
event is October 5-6, 2000; the San Francisco event is Sept. 25-26.
This new breed of career fair sounds intriguing.

* ADVANCED SEARCH STRING OF THE MONTH
When you want techies, don't forget newsgroups. The same Boolean
searches you use on the Web work here, too, with slight changes to
syntax. And it can be even better if you're targeting employees at a
particular company (e.g., a competitor), because Deja.com's Power
Search lets you search by the email address of the sender. For
example, to find anyone at Cisco who has ever posted to any
newsgroup, go to www.deja.com/home_ps.shtml and in the 'Author'
field, type:
*@cisco.com
Then click the Search button. In the results, click the Author's
name for their email address and for links to every message that
person has posted. Click on the Subject line to read the actual
message. To narrow your results to Cisco staff with the skill sets
you seek, type a Boolean phrase with relevant terms (e.g., java and
xml) in the 'Enter keywords' field on the Power Search form.
To learn how to adapt Boolean search strings to other desired
candidate skilltypes or other geographic areas, if you have attended
one of our seminars or subscribed to online-only access, go to:

* RECRUITING NEWS OF THE MONTH
The International Assn. for HR Information Management has launched a
site for HR, HRIS, HRIM and IT professionals compiling more than
2,300 vendors of HR products, software and systems consultants, as
well as objective, current reports on technology trends and new
offerings. You can filter information by specific topics. It's free
for IHRIM members, and for a $175 annual subscription fee for non-
members.

* GENERAL RECRUITING TIP OF THE MONTH
What often makes the difference for a candidate between two otherwise-
equal job offers? Apparently, it's the contact between employer and
candidate during the interview process. Recent actual examples
reveal that the company which sent a small gift or a welcome card
signed by the staff of the hiring department got the nod over the
firm which made no such gestures. As low cost as those deal-sealers
are, it may require no cash at all: The position requiring an
interview process lasting over several weeks didn't keep earlier
interviewees updated. Candidates' follow-up emails asking for an
update also went unanswered. A competing firm facing a similar
protracted interview schedule instead used its autoresponder software
to send a generic email weekly telling each candidate s/he was still
under consideration. The latter firm ultimately got the hire. Are
you using autoresponder software effectively? It's free. Learn more

* RECRUITING PARTNERSHIPS OF THE MONTH
In August, eProNet.com, the job/resume site to recruit alumni from 75
top-tier universities, announced a partnership with
UniversityAngels.com, the entrepreneur/angel investment resource
serving students and alumni of the world's top schools, with over
1,300 investors. The startup companies in University Angels get
direct access to the experienced professionals they need, and
eProNet's candidates benefit from University Angels' investor and
entrepreneur programs.

* RECRUITING STATISTIC OF THE MONTH
According to an IDC study released in June, 41% of online job seekers
use the Internet to research companies, 37% seek salary data, 36%
post resumes and 27% want career advice. How many of these needs
does your Web site address? (If you've taken the Recruiting-
Online.com seminar recently, you already know how you can provide all
of these for FREE on your web site.) For more of the IDC study,
visit:
